Tillage Radish Cover Crop Update Five

Here’s update number five in my Tillage Radish cover crop experiment.  Winter is in full swing at the end of December.  The radish foliage has pretty much died completely and the tubers are starting to rot although the bigger ones are frozen right now.

In the smaller bed, the chickens have enjoyed eating some of the above ground tubers while fertilizing the soil and working in the dead foliage in true permaculture style.  It’s hard to believe that just a little over a month ago in update number four the radishes were still growing with lush, green foliage.

Here are the past updates:

Update Four (11/27/12)

Update Three (10/5/12)

Update Two (9/5/12)

Update One (8/10/12)
